About Gem Knowledge Base

Gem Knowledge Base started as a single Google Doc: a partner explaining engagement rings to friends who were about to propose and had no idea what "VS" or "H-I" actually meant. That doc grew into this site.

What we are

We are an editorial resource. We write long-form buying guides that assume you know nothing, and we explain things the way you would explain them to a friend — with UK and European shoppers in mind. That means using UK letter ring sizes, talking about VAT at a high level, and being honest about the gap between "lab-grown" and "moissanite" that most online shops quietly blur.

What we are not

We are not a price-comparison engine, and we are not trying to be the biggest jewellery retailer on the internet. Alongside the guides we list a small, carefully selected range of bridal pieces from a workshop we know personally. Those products are certified by GRA and shipped tracked to the UK and EU. We link to the relevant guide from every product page on purpose: read first, buy second.

Why you can trust the guides

Every article is edited against publicly available reference material — GIA-style 4C definitions, UK ring-size conversion tables published by the British Jewellers' Association, and standard jewellery-care guidance. We update articles when facts change, and the "updated" date you see on each guide is the date we last reviewed it.

The workshop behind the products

The pieces listed on this site come from an audited production workshop that specialises in moissanite and laboratory-grown stone setting. Each centre stone ships with a GRA report card confirming carat, cut, colour and clarity grade. We visit the factory floor, the plating line and the quality-control bench — which is why we can speak about how a ring is actually made, not just how it looks on a model.
